I semi-recently joined the 21st century (8 months ago) and finally bought myself a smart phone/iPhone. Let me tell you, I don’t know how I went without one for so long!!! In ode to the smart phone Cat and I have compiled a list of our favorite iPhone apps to share with you! Let us know what you think.

Cat’s Favorites:

TuneIn Radio | Well, the radio/cd player system in my car has been broken (something is wrong/broken with the electrical system that runs the radio/cd player and I have not fixed it because I will be getting a different car in the near future) therefore I have been radio-less for about a year now. As you can imagine riding in my car can be a little quiet and at times boring, so I found an online radio app where I can listen to my favorite talk show in the mornings, and listen to any other stations local and afar. I love it! It also has a feature where one can save your favorite and you can browse by local radio, recommended, music genre, sports, news, and talk. You can listen to pretty much anything that you are into and it is a free app!

Camera+ | I heard about this app while watching a video tutorial on IPhone Photography by Koci Hernandez, a Multimedia Journalist http://multimediashooter.com/ I LOVE this app; this has replaced the camera feature that comes on my iPhone. I find I have more editing capabilities and the quality of my photos is so much better when I use Camera+. I cannot remember how much I paid for the app, but it is no more than $3.

Instagram | Well, as I mentioned previously I enjoy taking photos with my iPhone and of course, I like to share them. At first, I started using Instagram because of its filters, but now I use it to share and more of a social media site. The app is free. Feel free to follow me at kitty5289.

WordPress | As you know, Cristy and I share this blog. I find it useful to be able to access it by using this app. With the app, I can respond to comments, check our stats, and make a post (but I would not recommend it because it is somewhat difficult). I believe this app is free.

Cristy’s Favorites:

Pinterest | Most of you have probably heard of Pinterest by now, but if you haven’t I highly recommend it. Pinterest allows you to browse an endless catalog of photos ranging from pictures of make-up inspirations to recipes to do-it-yourself projects – you name it. Most of the images always link back to tutorials on how to create what’s pictured or where to buy it. I personally love using this app to collect images of outfits I want, recipes and project inspirations. I usually find myself using this app when I’m waiting around for something or someone or on lazy Sunday. If you are not already using it, I highly recommend it.

Genius Scan | I often find myself in a document-scanning bind. My printer/scanner is not always connected to my laptop and sometimes connecting one to the other takes longer than the actual scan. I then end up spending unnecessary money at Kinkos for a simple scan. I recently came across Genius Scan, a FREE app that lets you take a picture of a document or picture and converts into a PDF. Let me tell you this has been a lifesaver. The quality of the scans is as good as if it was fed through a scanner and best of all you can e-mail it directly from your phone. This is definitely a must-have.

Nike Training | I’m no gym bunny, but lately I’ve been on a health kick to shed some pounds and have been trying to find new and different ways to be more physically active. A friend of mine introduced me to the Nike Training app and I LOVE it! This free app is literally like a personal trainer. You can choose a workout goal, your activity level and the amount of time you wish to spend on that particular workout.  You are then given a list of movements and step-by-step instructions, if you are more of a visual person like myself, you get pictures and video instructions for each workout. I find this app so helpful when I’m at the gym and I’m trying to maximize my workout. I encourage you to give it a try.

SparkPeople | Another one of my favorite apps is also health related. SparkPeople is a free app that was created by the gracious people at Ebay. Whether you are trying to lose weight, maintain weight or just track your food intake, the app is excellent. You can track your caloric intake as well as any other nutritional value you wish to track. I find it especially helpful to input what I eat after each meal to ensure that I am not going over my allotted calories and carbohydrates for the day. The best part of it is that almost any food you can think of is already registered in the database. Additionally, you can track your fitness and weight.
