While you wait to hear which presidential candidate will win the presidency, you should go to for some of the most detailed and accurate horoscopes I’ve ever read.

Astrology has always been pretty fascinating to me. I can’t say that I’m extremely well versed on the topic, but I know enough to know that I believe the stars are somewhat telling of our personality traits.

Whether you believe in the power of the cosmic stars or not I highly encourage you to check out Susan Millers’ monthly horoscopes. Prepare to me mind blown ;).

Let us know what your thoughts are.

In general, our last few posts have revolved around nails so I thought  I’d keep the theme going. A few weeks ago as I waited for my Catalina/4th of July inspired nails to dry, I thought…there must be something to help the polish on my nails dry faster! See, I’ve heard many myths of how one can achieve dry nails quickly (using Pam, cold water, blow dryer etc.) but I’ve never tried any of these myself.

So I decided to put some of these methods to test. The four methods I tested were ice-cold water, Nail Polish Dryer by Beauty Secrets, Dove hairspray and good old air-drying. I applied two coats of polish to four nails on my left hand and then applied a different “drying agent” on each nail. I allowed the agent to sit on each nail for about five minutes and then I simply ran my right-hand thumbnail across each nail and this is what I found…

Method 1 | Ice-cold water: Dipping my finger in a bowl of ice-cold water for 5 minutes was a disaster. Not only was my finger unconscious for another 5 minutes but it was the least effective method. The polish was extra gooey and I’m sure my thumb didn’t appreciate being submerged in ice-cold water for so long.

Method 2 | Nail Polish Dryer by Beauty Secrets:  This aerosol spray gets an 11 out of 10! My nail was completely dry after five minutes. When I ran my fingernail across it, nothing happened…not a dent or scratch. I highly recommend this product; it’s effective, inexpensive ($3.49 for 8.5 oz) and easy to get a hold of. I purchased mine at a retail Sally Beauty supply shop, but the product can also be ordered on the Sally Beauty website.

Method 3 | Hairspray: For this method I used Dove hairspray…I must note that the hairspray I used did not come in an aerosol can, not sure if that makes a difference. Either way, save the hairspray for hair. This technique did not deliver; it was a bit more effective than the ice water but not worth it. It made the polish thick and gunky.

Method 4 | Air Dry: As most of us know, unless you’re using quick-dry polish, five minutes is not long enough for nails to air dry. Air dry came in second to ice-cold water. While the polish was not gunky or gooey after five minutes, it was just not dry enough to be able to go on with the day without nicking or scratching the polish. For perfect air-dry results I would recommend waiting at least 15 minutes.

These nail quick-dry trials answered some of my questions, but if you have another method that you’ve tried please share with us.   We’d love to hear what products/methods you have tried or use regularly.

Hello, summer!!! I don’t know about you, but I find that during the summer I am a bit more motivated to work out than usual. Whether it be because I have to squeeze into all the cute summer clothes or just because I want to take advantage of all the outdoorsy summer activities, summer always adds a little oomph to my physical activity.

In honor of the first day of summer I’d like to share a new workout playlist I’ve created. The list consists of up-tempo, (old and new) dance music. I’ve selected these songs, because they are so high energy that you can’t help but keep going. Enjoy the music and may you be fueled to add these songs to your own workout playlist!

Titanium – David Guetta Ft. Sia Let’s Go –

Calvin Harris Ft. Ne-Yo

Cry for You – September

Scream – Usher

Love Don’t Let Me Go – David Guetta

Save the World (Knife Party remix) – Swedish House Mafia

Automatic – Nicki Minaj

Heads Will Roll – Yeah Yeah Yeah’s

Sweat (David Guetta Remix) – Snoop Dogg

Lights – Ellie Goulding

I believe makeup should enhance features not mask them, and one essential product that can make it or break it is eye liner. After experimenting with varies eye liners and putting them through the daily trials and tribulations, I have found an eye liner that is far better than a high-end one, hope this inspires you to try something new.

The two eye liners I experimented with are polar opposites – one is high-end and the other is low-end (drugstore).

High-end: Urban Decay, 24/7 Glide-On pencil in zero (black)

Low-end: Milani, Liquif’Eye metallic pencil in 05 Brown

Milani – super creamy, easy to glide on, long lasting, very pigmented and affordable (less than $10 at CVS, drugstore chain).

Urban Decay – creamy and easy to glide on.

Milani – the eye liner is very creamy which is good and bad. Good because it makes it easy to glide on, but it is bad because at times it makes it difficult to correct mistakes (aka crooked lines, yes, it happens).

Urban Decay – to my surprise this was not as long lasting or pigmented as the Milani, and it cost about twice as much.

Test one:

On my left hand create a single layer line, let it set for about a minute, and with my pointer finger rub back and forth five times. The Milani eye liner survives the test much better than the Urban Decay pencil, as shown here:

After the rubbing test:

Test two:

After test one has been completed I let about 30 minutes pass by then I wash my hands with soap. Once again, the Milani eye liner is clearly the winner:

After using the eye liners for several months and running them through varies tests, I give the wining title to the Milani Liquif’Eye liner pencil!

Lets admit it, I think most of us can attest to having at least one guilty pleasure. Myself, I’ll admit I read the entire Twilight Saga throughout the course of two weeks, I secretly lip synch to Selena Gomez’s, “Love You Like a Love Song” and I might regret admitting to this in a minute, but I can’t get enough of Pretty Little Liars. It is no surprise that when a friend tried persuading me into reading The Hunger Games (the first book in the latest young adult book series and soon to be released movie) it didn’t take much convincing.

Let me start by telling you that this book is definitely not for everyone, but I highly recommend it. Comparable to a modern day Lord of the Flies, The Hunger Games takes place in post-apocalypse North America or as they call it in the book Panem.

I’ll try not to divulge too much information but every year teenagers (ages 12-18) from the 12 districts of Panem (comparable to our states) must enter a drawing where two teenagers are chosen at random as tributes to partake in the annual Hunger Games. In the Hunger Games, the 24 tributes are placed in an arena where they are to fend for themselves and kill each other, while their every move is broadcast via television for everyone’s entertainment. The last tribute standing wins the Hunger Games.

The book follows the story of Katniss Everdeen, a brave young girl who volunteers as a tribute in place of her little sister who was originally selected as tribute. Throughout the book we get to see how grotesque the tradition of the Hunger Games is and how in a way it is comparable to reality television shows today like Survivor. We also get to see how even in a post apocalypse world, governments still control the every move of people and in a way force people to revert to primitive animalistic ways.

I wish I could say more, but then I would give it all away. All I can say is that the book is a very fast read. I read it all in three days. I highly recommend it, but don’t take my word for it. Click on the image below to watch the movie trailer and see if the upcoming movie, which by the way comes out in theaters on March 23, entices you enough to read the book.

Having relocated to a city where my friends are not just around the corner, I find myself with a lot of spare time. So instead of adding to my extensive list of trashy TV shows (don’t get me wrong, I love me some trashy TV), I’ve made the executive decision to be more productive in 2012.  As a skeptic to anything that looks or smells like commitment I’d like to share with you, my top 4 things to commit to in 2012 in hopes of a more productive and stimulating life. Here it goes…

INSANITY Screen Capture

INSANITY. Yes I’m insane for committing to possibly one of the hardest fitness programs out there (I’ll probably regret it 10 minutes into the work out tomorrow). For those of you who have not heard of INSANITY, it’s a 60-day work out program that includes plyometric drills, nonstop intervals of strength, power, resistance and core training. I’ll admit I’ve started the program before and stopped after day 3 because I was so sore, but I’m going to commit to completing the 60 days. I’ll be posting every two weeks about my “insane” progress.

Music. Music makes my heart go boom, boom. I love it all and there is nothing that I love more than to listen to live music. I am making it a goal to go out and explore and discover old and new music. I will definitely be giving you all insight into my musical findings.

Books to read

Read. I love reading, yet these days I cannot seem to finish a book. Not because the content of the book is boring, but I seem to get preoccupied in nonsense. I have shelves and shelves of books that I’ve started and never finished. My goal is to read them and let you know what I think. Maybe we can engage in a discussion…

Live Fearlessly. For an over-thinker such as myself, this can be a huge roadblock. Always torn between the, what if’s, right, wrong, etc. I think that life is too short to not take risks, regardless of the outcome. So cheers to being brave!

I want to share 10 or my favorite items from 2011. Several of my favorites have been in my collection for many years.

Beauty products:

1. BurtsBees Beeswax Lip Balm

I want to start with my all times favorite lip balm. I love this stuff! I’ve been using this product for many years. It always moisturizes well, adds a little minty tingle, and I love that it doesn’t smell like “medicine.”

2. CoverGirl Perfect Blend Eyeliner

CoverGirl Perfect Blend Eyeliner

CoverGirl Perfect Blend Eyeliner

Another all times favorite! I’m not a fan of black eyeliner, it’s too harsh or dramatic for me, and I usually use black eyeliner on special occasions. I find the Perfect Blend Eyeliners to be so creamy, easy to apply and it comes with a smudger at one end, so it’s easy to give yourself a little Smokey eye. My favorite color are Black Brown #110, Mink #115, and Smokey Taupe #130 which for a good eyebrow pencil. Another thing that you can do to make it last a longer is to “seal” the eyeliner. Basically you draw on your eye line, go over it with a powder shadow, and voila! I like to stay within the same family of colors; if I’m using dark brown pencil eyeliner then I go over it with a dark brown eye shadow. Simple step but it will help your eyeliner stay on longer and smudge less.

3. Clinique All About Eyes Concealer

Clinique All About Eyes Concealer

Clinique All About Eyes Concealer

Another product that I have been using for many year. I am in the color Light Golden. It give a moderate coverage, it does crease a little. I use it to cover dark circles under my eyes. According to Clinique’s website, it helps to reduce the look of puffiness. I haven’t notice any change, but it’s nice to know it helps. Oh, and it’s oil-free, which is always a plus for a girl with combination skin.

4. CoverGirl Lash Blast Volume mascara – waterproof

CoverGirl Lash Blast Volume Mascara

CoverGirl Lash Blast Volume Mascara

Another product that I’ve been using for at least two years. It volumizes and adds body to my lashes, and it’s pretty black so that’s always a plus! One thing I am starting to dislike is that size of the actual brush, it’s pretty large and I always end up with mascara on my upper lids… or it could be that my upper/brown bone area is starting to sag, hope not. Anyway, it’s a pretty good product and I would recommend it.

5. ELF Studio Kabuki Face Brush

ELF Kabuki Face Brush

ELF Kabuki Face Brush

Talk about a great bang for your buck! This brush is only $6 at; it is part of their studio line. Its super soft, really makes your make up look flawless, and it’s a nice little compact size. I love it. I have back up, just in case.

6. CHI Silk Infusion

CHI Silk Infusion

CHI Silk Infusion

I was originally introduced to this product by one of my college friends. I always used to use hers whenever I’d be over; finally I had to get my own. So yes, CHI (Cationic Hydration Interlink) whatever that all means… smells great, leave hair feeling super soft and silky, lasts for a long time. I’ve had my 6 fl. oz. bottle for at least two years and I haven’t even used half of it. I use a little after I wash my hair and before I blow dry it. Also, on those days when it’s feeling a little dry I add more to my ends after its blow dried. Love it, a must try!

Next I’ll focus on non-beauty products. Here I’ll share things I have been obsessed with over that last year or so.

Non-Beauty Products:

7. iPad (1st generation)

Oh my goodness, what did I ever do without one?! Yes, I love it. It’s so easy to take it with me, love watching YouTube videos, reading books, Facebook-ing, and so much more.

8. YouTube beauty videos

As you may have read in my little bio, It’s one of my “addictions.” I seriously watch a new video every day. Some of my favorite Beauty Gurus are: DulceCandy87, JulieG713, Emilynoel83, aLoveTart and one of my friends MelissaGirlstylst. Love them!

9. iPhone Apps – Words With Friends and Pandora

Words With Friends is like Scrabble but with different rules. Love it! I have several games going on at once. I am Cfiggy, let’s play!

Love Pandora, I seriously listen to my different radio stations every day. So accessible, easy to manage, a huge variety and it has minimal commercials. Way awesome!

And the big number 10 is….

10. Kambucha Synergy drinks

It may take a few tries to get used to their unique taste, but I assure you you’ll love them! They’re super healthy and good for you, organic and raw. They come in so many flavors – some of my favorites are: Mystic Mango, Gingerade, and Guava something (I don’t see it on their website), so it may not be around anymore.
But yes, love these drinks.

Alrighty, these are my Top 10 Favorites of 2011… What were your favorites?
